Year: 1924 (May)
Chassis: No 636
Engine No: Originally 635 Now: KM 3092
Body: Original Vanden Plas Ex Factory Demonstrator
A unique original 3 Litre Speed Model with a full and fascinating history. Chassis 636, originally built with sports touring coachwork by Park Ward, now carries this very original Vanden Plas open touring coachwork fitted by the factory sales agents, Jack Barclays, in about 1929. This second body was originally fitted to Frank Clement's (factory Le Mans driver) factory demonstrator. The extensive history file includes early factory service and ownership records with many period photographs and maintenance details. Chassis 636 is a well known Bentley Drivers Club car and it has attended many events and rallies over the years. In the 1960's the car was uprated with a 4.5 Litre engine mated to a highly desirable "D" type gearbox, making it a very exciting and competitive car. This work was carried out by Hoffman and Burton, one of the best Vintage Bentley specialists in that period. Subsequent maintenance records in the file record work at Blackmore Engineering (Tony Fabian) and Elmdown. The car was present at the Club events organised for W.O. Bentley's 80th birthday celebrations and there are several photographs in the history file with W.O. himself in the driver's seat! The condition is excellent, and with the correct original linoleum still covering the floor boards, it has been obviously been carefully maintained.
