It hardly needs saying that Jaguar's success at Le Mans in the 1950's was due, to a very great extent, to the legendary XK engine. In various configurations it powered both the factory race and rally cars like the C Types and D Types, and was the heart of some of the company's most successful road cars. It created a golden age of motor racing for the British company, and Jaguar's subsequent success is due in large part to the design. To just say the engine was powerful and reliable doesn't even get close. It delivered the torque with smooth flexibility, and with an unmistakable exhaust note!

The inline 6-cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine was produced from 1948 to1992 in various capacities, and powered all the XK series sports cars, the later E Type, and the larger saloons. Sir William Lyons, William Heynes, Walter Hassan, Claude Bailey, and Harry Weslake all contributed to the supremely successful design. It's a wonderful piece of kit!

The XK150 (1957-1961) was the final development in the range of Jaguar sports cars which started with the XK120 (1948-1954), followed by the XK140 (1954-1957). On each model various mechanical specifications were offered as well as three different body styles, a 2 seater roadster, a DHC, and the fixed head coupe like this car. The early XK 150 cars had a 3.4 litre engine and the later cars a 3.8 litre. Special "S" versions with three SU carburettors as opposed to the standard two were also offered. You could specify options such as overdrive, disc brakes, bucket seats, fog lights, and a whole host of other extras.

This was a RHD model from new and fitted with overdrive (the DN in the chassis number signifies this). It has the optional bucket seats, wire wheels, and additionally has been fitted with an oil catch tank, a Kenlowe electric cooling fan (useful in traffic) and, unusually, power steering. This is the correct Jaguar power steering which makes the car a joy to drive on long rallies and tours. It has a 3.8 litre block and the original head.

It has a full history with a large file of maintenance history documents and photographs. The car is still in its original very attractive colour scheme of Sherwood Green with Suede Green Leather. It's very rare to find an original RHD car in such well maintained condition.
